DO I HAVE TO MOVE TO PRAGUE?

The program is on-site. So living in or close to Prague may be helpful.

WHY IS IT CALLED 42?

42 is called 42 in honor of the famous science fiction book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, by Douglas Adams. In this story, 42 emerges as the answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

DO CANDIDATES NEED TO KNOW HOW TO CODE TO JOIN 42?

No, not at all! It is not necessary to have any knowledge in programming to join and succeed at 42 Prague. 50% of selected students did not have an experience with coding. 

WHAT ARE THE AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS?

There is only a minimum age limit of 18, and no maximum age limit.

I ALREADY CODE. WHY SHOULD I APPLY?

42 Prague offers a world-class program that challenges students through projects of gradual complexity. Each exercise is unique and requires you to think outside the box – along with other talented and motivated students. Everyone has a rewarding experience while attending our school, whether they have prior programming skills or not. More than learning to code, at 42, you’ll develop your teamwork skills, adaptability, problem-solving, communication, resilience, autonomy, and responsibility.

HOW DOES 42 OPEN A DOOR TO A CAREER IN TECHNOLOGY?

More than teaching you how to program, 42 Prague teaches you to overcome challenges. You have countless paths to choose from throughout the program, so you can specialize in whatever you want: Mobile, Functional Programming, Web Security, Reverse Engineering, Malicious Code, Kernel Programming, Network Programming, Artificial Intelligence, 3D, etc. Big tech companies around the world are always on the lookout for 42 students and often offer them job opportunities when the program is still halfway through!

DO I NEED TO BE CZECH TO APPLY?

No! We welcome everyone and aim to become the central school for the CEE region. We do not provide visa support, unfortunately, but we do all we can to help you integrate in the local IT community in the best possible way.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN 42 AND A CODING BOOTCAMP?

The 42 program is a great follow-up for a short-term bootcamp. It is also 100% free. It teaches the foundations of computer science, as well as various languages, and provides you with a broad expertise to be able to become a full-stack developer in just three years, as opposed to a more narrow focus of coding camps. Above all, you learn how to learn.

WHY WOULD STUDENTS CHOOSE 42 OVER TRADITIONAL UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE?

42 Prague offers a program that is 100% practical and focused on coding. You'll work in teams and write code every day. At 42, students are immediately learning the principles of coding, while content is being updated on a regular basis. During the specialization phase of your studies, you are exposed to fresh, practical projects (AI, app development, operating systems, security), which allows you to build a portfolio of your work in advance of a job interview.

DOES THE SCHOOL ORGANIZE ANY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES?

Yes! The best way to prepare our students for a job is by organizing regular events with guest speakers and other forms of collaborations with companies and organizations, such as hackathons and workshops.

DOES 42 HAVE OWNERSHIP RIGHTS TO ANY CODE THAT STUDENTS DEVELOP DURING THE PROGRAM?

No. 42 Prague students have full ownership of all the code they create on campus, in both curricular or personal projects. We don’t want to stop our students from making big strides and starting their own entrepreneurial path.

WHAT LANGUAGE IS USED AT 42 PRAGUE?

All of 42’s content and projects are available in English. English is an important language to be able to thrive in the digital world and we want our students to think globally. At 42 Prague we use English as our common basic language to enable non-Czech speakers to participate and contribute, and to empower Czech-speakers to work internationally.

WHAT IS PEER-TO-PEER LEARNING?

Peer-to-peer learning is an education model where students learn from each other instead of learning from an appointed teacher. It emphasizes critical thinking, teamwork and communication. Students also evaluate each other and learn from explaining to peers.

DO I NEED TO USE MY OWN COMPUTER THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM?

You don’t need any material to study at 42 Prague. Our campus is equipped with enough computers for all students. You can bring your own computer and work on it, but you will only be able to submit your work on the school’s computers.

IS THERE A PHYSICAL CAMPUS FOR THE SCHOOL?

Yes, 42 Prague campus located in the Kolbenova area in Prague. Campus is open 24/7, because we want 42 Prague to always be available for each student to be able advance the program at their own space, in the hours that are most practical for them. This way, you can use our campus whenever you want, entering and leaving without any problems. You can also count on a campus security guard around the clock.

WHY ARE THERE NO TEACHERS IN 42?

42 uses a project-based learning approach, in which you develop your own solutions, supported by your peers. 42 provides the learning environment, and ensures that you are progressing along the curriculum.

WHAT IS '42'?

42 is a private, tuition-free coding school. It was founded in Paris in 2013 - Ecole 42. With a disruptive peer-to-peer education model and philosophy, 42 has achieved great results (100% of well-employed graduates, 80% have opportunities before graduation, 30% build their own companies, 50% never coded before). Due to their success, other 42 schools opened up all around the world. Currently there are 42 partner schools in more than 25 countries with more than 15,000 students. 42 Prague is the first 42 school in the Czech Republic.

IS THE PROGRAM FULL-TIME?

At 42, there are no scheduled classes. You organize your work and your schedule. The school is open 24 hours a day throughout the year, and you can expect to spend most of your working time on campus. We recommend seeing the program as a full-time activity, however, there are students who study and work part-time.
